Using a Bag with your website

There are two ways to attach a Bag of Holding to a web server. Both migrate any files already at the target path onto the Bag automatically, so nothing is lost or hidden.

Option 1: Extra folder (recommended)

Pick one folder inside your site to live on the Bag, typically the folder that grows forever:

• WordPress: .../public_html/wp-content/uploads
• General sites: an uploads, media, or files folder

Your site's code and pages stay on fast local disk; only the big folder moves. If the Bag is ever briefly unreachable, the rest of your site keeps working.

Your site files live under /home/nhweb/sites//public_html. You'll see the exact path suggested when you attach.

Option 2: Entire web directory (replace mode)

Moves your whole web directory onto the Bag. Use this when your site itself is bigger than your plan's disk (large media sites, download archives, galleries).

Things to know about replace mode:

• After migration your site's files live only on the Bag. The local copy is removed to free your plan's disk.
• If the Bag has a network hiccup, your whole site is affected (not just one folder).
• It's not for databases; those stay on local disk regardless.

Detaching

• Extra folder: files stay on the Bag; the folder on the server becomes empty local disk again.
• Entire web directory: we copy everything back to local disk first, then detach. This requires your files to fit on the server's local disk. If they don't, the detach stops safely and nothing is lost. Free up space or upgrade your plan's disk first.

Performance tips

• Put the Bag in the same region as your web server.
• Keep hot, small files (code, config) local; put big, cold files on the Bag.
