Troubleshooting Private Networking

The Agent says "disconnected"

  • Make sure you're signed in to the Agent.
  • Open the Private Networking tab and click Install & Connect (or Connect) again.
  • Confirm the server shows Connected in your dashboard — if it's still Setting up…, give it a minute.

I declined the Windows (UAC) prompt

Installing the private-networking client needs administrator rights for one step. Click Install & Connect again and choose Yes on the prompt. It's the official, signed Tailscale installer (you'll see "Tailscale Inc." as the verified publisher).

I'm on a restrictive / corporate network

Most connections go direct, but some networks block the needed paths. The connection automatically falls back to a relay so it still works — it may just be slightly slower. If nothing connects at all, check whether your network blocks outbound UDP and HTTPS.

A server isn't showing up to add

Private Networking is available on any account. Make sure the server you want to connect is active — it then appears under Add to network on the Private Networking page. See the pricing article for how the per-server add-on works.

Still stuck?
