Valheim Server Setup Guide

Setup

  • Deploy a game server and select Valheim
  • Basic tier works for most groups (2-10 players)
  • Set a world name and server password

    • Connecting

    Valheim uses Steam Game Server for connections:

  • Open Valheim → Join Game
  • Search for your server name, or
  • Add Server with your IP:port (e.g., 1.2.3.4:2456)

    • Crossplay

    Valheim supports crossplay between Steam and Xbox. Enable crossplay from the startup configuration.

    Mods

    #### Valheim Plus

  • install Valheim Plus from the Startup tab mod selector
  • Configure valheim_plus.cfg for gameplay changes
  • Clients must also install Valheim Plus

    • #### BepInEx / Thunderstore

  • Install BepInEx framework first
  • Upload mods to /BepInEx/plugins/
  • Most Thunderstore mods require client-side installation too

  • Server stuck on "Starting" - Check Valheim Troubleshooting Guide
  • Can't find server - Use direct connect with IP:port
  • World not saving - Check disk space and permissions
  • Mods not working - Ensure version compatibility
